Punjab Domestic Workers Act 2019

The Punjab Domestic Workers Act (PDWA) 2019 is a landmark piece of legislation enacted by the Government of Punjab to recognize domestic workers and protect their rights formally. The Act provides a legal framework for registration, regulation of working conditions, protection of minimum wages, and access to social security and welfare benefits for domestic workers. The adoption of this law was the result of long-standing advocacy and collective efforts by trade unions and workers’ organizations. In particular, the Pakistan United Workers Federation (PUWF) and the Domestic Workers Union Lahore played a significant role through continuous campaigns, dialogue, and policy engagement to ensure the recognition and protection of domestic workers in Punjab.
